What We Don't Collect

We don't collect anything. Seriously. No personal information, no email addresses, no phone numbers, no usage data, no analytics, no cookies for tracking purposes. When you use MerryMatch, you're using a completely offline-capable web application that runs entirely in your browser.

How Your Data is Stored

All your MerryMatch groups, participant lists, restrictions, and generated assignments are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. This is a built-in browser feature that keeps data on your device only. We have no way to access, read, or retrieve this data because it never leaves your computer or phone.

Magic Links Explained

When you generate assignments and share magic links via WhatsApp, SMS, or copy-paste, the recipient's name is encoded directly in the URL using a simple encoding method. This means the "secret" is contained entirely within the link itself - we don't store any assignment data on any server. The link is decoded locally in the recipient's browser when they open it.

Data Persistence & Deletion

Since all data is stored in your browser's localStorage, you have complete control over it. You can delete individual groups through the app, or clear all data by clearing your browser's site data. If you switch browsers or devices, your data won't transfer automatically because it only exists on the original device.

Third-Party Services

When you choose to share magic links via WhatsApp or SMS, you're using those platforms' native sharing capabilities. We simply open the share dialog with a pre-filled message - we don't interact with WhatsApp or any SMS provider's APIs, and we don't have access to your contacts or message history.

Children's Privacy

Since we don't collect any personal information from anyone, this naturally extends to children as well. The app can be safely used by families including children, as no data is ever transmitted or stored outside of the user's own device.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change how the app works in a way that affects privacy (which would likely never happen given our commitment to zero data collection), we'll update this page. But honestly, our approach is simple: we don't want your data, we don't need your data, and we've built the app to work entirely without it.
